ONLINE – California Weekend of Action: Special Election for California’s Congressional District 25
April 25, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
One event on April 26, 2020 at 1:00 pm
n 2018, Swing Left activists mobilized to flip the seat in California’s 25th Congressional District and elect Katie Hill. The people of California’s 25th, and the country, are better off today because we were able to take back this seat and the House. In the May 12 Special Election, we have the chance to fill the seat left vacant when Katie Hill resigned last year and make sure it stays blue!
This special election will be held completely by mail-in ballot. Californians in the 25th District are receiving their ballots now. We’ll be reaching out to voters by phone to let them know more about Christy and help them make a plan to complete their ballot. Many voters may be voting by mail for the first time, so your help will be vital!
Volunteers will be automatically invited to a training session to learn about Christy Smith and how to phone banking on Thursday, April 23 at 6pm before you make calls over the weekend of action. Once you register for this Weekend of Action event, look out for an email confirming your registration which will also include the link to the training session on Thursday night.
Here’s more information about this crucial election:
Holding on to the seat in California Congressional District 25 is critical to keeping our majority in the House and preserving what we fought so hard for in 2018. Our Democratic majority in the House allowed us to hold Trump accountable. We need to hold on to this seat, and the Democratic majority. We can’t let our huge gains in Southern California slip away.
Christy Smith is the Democratic nominee for this seat. Christy is a California State Assembly member for California’s 38th Assembly District, which represents 58% of California’s 25th Congressional District. A 39-year resident of Santa Clarita, Christy has worked in education throughout her career, having started at the U.S. Department of Education. As an assemblymember, she has authored laws on public safety and education and secured funding for local schools and clinics.
Now more than ever we need to ensure all Californians have access to quality health care, education, and public infrastructure to keep our citizens safe and secure, rather than enrich the pockets of corporate PACs and lobbyists.
Join us April 25 to make calls to ensure we keep this seat and elect Christy Smith!
