Zoom conversation with Rev. Warnock, next Senator from Georgia
June 24, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
ONLINE Fundraiser for Rev. Rafael Warnock, Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in Georgia’s Special Election
About Rev. Warnock
He was born in Savannah, GA, and grew up in public housing as the 11th of 12 children. With the help of scholarships and student loans he attended Morehouse College and later earned his MDiv, MPhil, and PhD from Columbia University’s Union Theological Seminary. He is the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the same church that called Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to its pulpit back in 1960.
Rev. Warnock has woven together a deep accountability to his Christian faith with issues of modern progressivism. He has carried on the legacy of Dr. King leading voter registration drives, opposing capital punishment, and supporting affordable healthcare, women’s choice, and LGBTQ rights.
About the Event
On the day prior, he will have officiated at the funeral service for Rayshard Brooks, the man who was killed by a police officer on Friday night in a Wendy’s parking lot. The hour with Rev. Warnock will allow for questions regarding not only the current unrest, but his hopes for how he can use his position in the U.S. Senate to effect badly needed change on the national level. He is hoping to unseat Sen. Kelly Loeffler, appointed by Trump and who was recently investigated on charges of insider trading related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Boston political strategist Chet Atkins recently noted, “It is important to acknowledge that across the board, African American candidates raise less than 50% of what white candidates raise. Democratic donors need to recognize this inequity and work to correct it in this election cycle.”
Join Senate Circle in their effort to correct this disparity.
Rev. Warnock is currently the front democrat running for this seat. A primary election will not occur; instead, all candidates, regardless of party, will be placed on the same ballot. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff election to be held on January 5, 2021.
